Fifteen people gathered in the meeting room of Mom’s Place Too on Tuesday evening for the second meeting of Grantsville’s newly formed Republican Club. Some were relatively new faces to the Republican Party and some stalwart Republicans with several years of voting behind themselves. The group seemed to have one common factor between them which is a great concern regarding the direction of the current Democratic agenda. Some of those who attended had moved to Calhoun from much more progressive cities and states where predominately democratic leadership ruled with the opinion “This is no longer your grandfather’s Democratic Party.”
With Calhoun County being the majority Democrat, the group hopes to create new interest and a greater Republican presence in the community. They hope to raise awareness on the current trends that are quickly moving into rural areas within the government and schools that do not align with community standards.
Leader of the group, Arie White, moved from New Jersey in January having had several years of experience in a Republican club in that State where it was often 8-1 in democrat majority. When asked the difference between a Republican Club and the Republican Executive Committee, Mr. White stated that both serve in conjunction with one another, often over lapping in services. While the Republican Executive Committee’s focus is often on the “paper work” of politics, the club’s interest is more focused on creating local awareness, providing voter information, access and registration help. The chairman of the Republican Executive Committee is Michael Fitzwater, who was invited to the meeting but did not attend. It is hoped that the group can join forces with the Committee to establish a greater working Republican Base in Calhoun County to make changes in the both the Partisan and nonpartisan political realm.
The next meeting of the Republican Club will be on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 at Mom’s Place Too Meeting room.
