
Richard Lee Whited, 85, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away at his home after an extended illness on Monday, May 5, 2025.
He was born at Palestine, WV, February 12, 1940, a son of the late William Delbert and Georgia Estelle Lee Whited.
He was a retired Master Sergeant of the US Air Force. His military commendations include: National Defense Ribbon, Marksmanship Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (5), U.S.A.F. Longevity Medal (5), Outstanding Unit Award (3), Presidential Unit Citation (2), and Air Force Commendation Medal. His affiliations include the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His hobbies included auto mechanics, woodworking, fishing, hunting, slow pitch softball, and stained glass art.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Phillip Paul Whited and sisters Kathryn Ashley and Nancy Katrina.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Janet Starcher Whited, stepsons Mitchell Taylor (Roberta) of Newark, WV and Greg Taylor (Stephanie) of Ritchie County, WV, brother William C. Whited, sister Mary Ann Copen, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a special nephew Glendon Ashley.
Richard’s family would like to thank Housecalls Hospice nurses, Chaplain, and staff, and a special friend and neighbor, Geraldine Hupp, for their caring, kindness, and support.
A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 107 Market St., Grantsville, WV 26147, on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Chesser officiating.
