Robert “Bob” Cain Obituary

Robert “Bob” Cain, age 79 of Big Springs, WV departed this life on Friday, October 27, 2023 at his residence. 

Bob was born in Parkersburg, WV son of Orville “Inch” Cain and Bertha Mae Uhl-Cain. Bob served with distinction and honor in the USMC during 1966-1968, and was a veteran of Vietnam surviving the Battle of Quan Tri and Hill 881. Bob was a recipient of the Purple Heart from wounds received in combat. Bob called himself a substantial woodworker but was a master at his craft which was evident in his original creations that he gave as gifts from baby cradles, kitchen cabinets, thread cabinets, shot glass cabinets, dressers and mission style furniture. Whatever came to his imagination would come out of his workshop.

He is survived by his “Hero”, the one who lightened his step, made his eyes shine and made him laugh in the hardest of times, his wife of 50 years Patricia “Patsy” Cain. Sons, Edward D. Cain (Jennifer), Cairo, WV, William Heath Cain, Big Springs, WV; grandson, Brandon Carson (Lindsay), Cairo, WV; granddaughter, Julianna Lenore Cain, Big Springs, WV; great-grandchildren, Levi and Natalie Carson, Cairo, WV; bonus grandchildren, Zachary Foster, Annah Mae Foster (Kyle Cole) all of Cairo, WV; bonus great-grandchildren, Waylon and Kenzleigh Cole, Cairo, WV; siblings, Linda Stull, Bill Cain (Needy), Tim Cain and Becky Burris (David); sister-in-law, Katy Cain; brother-in-law, Larrell Collins; sisters-in-law, Karen Yoak (Jim) and Cheryl Cain; and longtime friend and neighbor Roger Collins.

 In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brothers Richard Cain and David Cain (Lisa). Brother-in-law, Cliff Stull and sister-in-law, Brenda Cain.

Bob had a giving generous, kind and loving heart. As he would wish, the family is requesting that in lieu of flower donations be made to the Ritchie County Humane Society, 2220 Pullman Rd., Harrisville, WV  26362 or Welfare of Animals Group of Calhoun County, WV in honor of his two adopted “pound hounds” Lucy and Tucker who he adopted at the RCHS. 

A service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV. Burial will follow in the Saunders Cemetery near Leading Creek in Calhoun County, WV Visitation will be held the night prior, Tuesday, from 4-8pm.
