Robert R. Jones (Bob), born January 12, 1941 in Madison, WV (Boon County) departed this life during the morning hours of Friday, August 8, 2025. Bob and his parents, Ray and Pauline Jones, moved to Gilmer County where he grew up and attended school. During these early school years Bob would help with the upkeep of Jones’ General Store. After that work dried up, he moved back to Sand Fork where he met and married his sweet heart, Judy Jones (Lucas). Around this time, he began well tending a handful of old wells which he eventually was able to purchase. Bob was a pioneer in the early WV shale boom of the 1970’s and 1980’s, drilling and completing over 500 vertical Oil and Gas wells, eventually establishing himself as Continental Petroleum Company, one of the largest independent operators in central WV. Bob was also community focused, where he took a financial interest in his home town, local church (Sand Fork Baptist Church), and the restoration of Camp Cowen in Webster County. Bob is survived by his wife Judith Lucas Jones, son Robert R. Jones II and wife Katrina, grandson Robert R. Jones III, and Sister, Luann Jones Cunningham and husband Phil.
