
Ronald “Ronnie” W. McLaughlin, 83, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, departed this earthly life in the late afternoon hours of Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV, with his family by his side.
He was born August 2, 1942, in Belfont, WV, a son of the late Eugene and Lovie (Hall) McLaughlin.
Ronnie joined the United States Army in 1960. He was Honorably discharged in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1980 and was Honorably discharged in 1981.
Ronnie held many different jobs throughout his life. He started working in the pipelining industry. From there, he went to work at Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio, where he told many stories of driving fast cars and making quick trips from Rosedale to Lorain and back. Ronnie also worked for several oil and gas companies, as an equipment operator for Jim Walker of Frametown, WV, as well as for Cecil James, he drove a mail truck, and worked in the timber industry.
Ronnie was united in marriage to his wife Glenna Hall McLaughlin on November 7, 1963, who currently resides at Glenville Center, Glenville, WV. Ronnie and Glenna had four children. Surviving are Connie Carpenter of Sand Fork, WV; Karen Cottrill (Jeff) of Rosedale, WV; and Wayne McLaughlin (Terrie) of Sand Fork, WV. Their youngest son, Stanley McLaughlin, of Glenville, WV, passed away in November 2010, after a short battle with lung cancer. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Amanda Cottrill (Andres), Heather Minney-Jamison (Stephen), Mike Cottrill (Amanda), Josh Minney (Tasha), Wayne McLaughlin II, Meranda McLaughlin-Posey (Billy), Stanley McLaughlin II (Bree), Austin McLaughlin, and Skylar McLaughlin. Ronnie is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren, Jayson and Kellan Lussler; Emylie and Noah Sarrazola-Cottrill; Isaiah Jamison; Annabelle and Liam Cottrill; Joshua and Holden Minney; Anna, Beau, Hank and Waylon McLaughlin; Ruger and Katelynn Carder; Bryson Wietholter; and Liahna and Sur Hollowell. Also surviving are three half-siblings, Brenda Ball (Dale) of Flatwoods, WV; Shirley Stearns (Mike) of Ellijay, GA; and Steve McLaughlin (Candy), Ellijay, GA. Ronnie also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends behind.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents and son Stanley McLaughlin.
He attended and was a member of different Methodist churches in the area where he held different roles such as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He enjoyed speaking and playing music anytime he was asked.
Ronnie’s family would like to thank all he staff at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center for being kind and giving him great care throughout the years he doctored there. A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff that cared for him during his final days and hours on this earth before going home. Thank you also to all family and friends for prayers for Ronnie and his family.
A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg, WV, 25234, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10 a.m., with Pastor John Putnam officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. Interment with full military honors will be in Poling-Marks Cemetery, Millstone, WV.
