Round Trip Chase Ends in Overdose Victim charged with Fleeing

Jessica Nicole Mckown of Crummies Creek Road, Arnoldsburg, WV has been charged with Fleeing while DUI by WV State Trooper J.D. Richards.

According to his criminal complaint, On Sunday, October 2nd, Trooper Richards and EMS personnel responded to Crummies Creek Road after a report of a woman having taken 360 muscle relaxers. EMS responded before the officer arrived. According to EMS personnel Jessica McKown was seated in a white Dodge pickup truck with her husband, Jerry McKown Jr., in the door of the truck preventing the accused from leaving the scene even though she was ”beating the crap out of him” according to EMS staff. The husband attempted to calm her down but she forcibly removed him from the truck door and drove off.

When Trooper Richards was approaching Crummies Creek Road, responding to scene, 911 had reported that Jessica McKown had taken off in the Dodge truck. Trooper Richards observed the truck and turned around engaging his lights to notify her to stop, believing she could harm herself and others in her condition. Mckown leaned out the window of her truck and displayed her middle finger, while speeding up to speeds of 70 mph through Arnoldsburg, which is a 40 mph zone; also driving left of center, failing to maintain control, failure to signal and failure to stop at signs. She traveled to Par Mar in Arnoldsburg where she went through the parking lot at 50 mph and back onto the road. When she met the ambulance that was returning from her address, her pickup came to a stop with the ambulance in front of the pick up. Trooper Richards initiated a felony traffic stop and there was no response from the accused in the drivers seat. He commanded her to get out of the vehicle, but still no response. He then forcibly removed her from the truck as she resisted arrest and scratched the trooper, drawing blood. He placed her in custody and ask her if she had taken the medicine, to which she responded ”Yep, all 347 of ’em.”

Trooper Richards then rushed her to Minnie Hamilton Health System where she started to overdose. The ER personnel along with the Trooper attempted to restrain her. During that time she bit the shoulder of a nurse, slapped another nurse, and kicked a male hard enough to rupture his hernia. She became lethargic with slurred speech and was incapable of walking by herself. Her stomach was pumped where the officer witnessed a large quantity of pills that she had indeed taken.

Mrs. McKown was released from custody due to her condition with the intention of getting warrants at a later time.
