Storms moving through the area Saturday afternoon, took down a large tree and with it the Frontier phone lines in the area. Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department were toned out about 4:00 p.m. to respond to the area in the 4000 block of South Calhoun Highway.
The tree was removed and traffic restored when Fire Department crews responded and removed the tree. An additional tree and downed lines on Sycamore Road was reported to the Fire Department on scene. Station 100 was responding to check it out after leaving the first scene.
According to the National Weather Service strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Calhoun, southeastern Ritchie, Doddridge, Nicholas, Gilmer, western Lewis, Braxton,
southeastern Roane, western Webster, Clay, northern Fayette and
western Harrison Counties through 500 PM EDT,
At 429 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles southeast of Harrisville to 7 miles west of Summersville. Movement was east at 40 mph.
HAZARD…Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

Grantsville, Clay, Salem, Ansted, Gassaway, West Union, Gauley
Bridge, Camden-On-gauley, Birch River, Arnoldsburg, Cedar Creek State
Park, Hawks Nest State Park, Craigsville and Big Otter.

Interstate 79 between mile markers 30 and 94.
Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 47 and 69.
Route 19 between mile markers 21 and 68.
