This coming Saturday, May 25, 2024, the 1982 Foundation will be opening their new $1 million swimming pool, the Saundra Johnson Aquatic Center!
The event will begin at 1:00 pm. An old man will be the first to dive off the high dive for the grand opening; a gentlemen from the class of 1978 (whose mother the pool is named after) will do the first “Big Yoak” off the high dive. A former swimmer from the Parkersburg YMCA Sharks will be doing the honorary first lap.
It is a big day for Calhoun County as they celebrate the opening of the swimming pool which is the first phase of the overall $10 million economic hub, called Avalon. Whether or not you choose to swim on Saturday, a drive to the Avalon campus will do a body good just to take in the sights and sounds of progress.
