Spring Temperatures placing Miss Magnolia at Risk of Frostbite

It caught my eye last week as I traveled through Grantsville and rounded the Corner at the end of Main Street and onto River Street. The Magnolia tree in the yard of Roger and Linda Jarvis was absolutely breathtaking!

It’s my prayer this morning that the frost didn’t get Miss Magnolia from the cold snap thats currently happening creating a risk for any early blooms.

The Magnolia was named by the Swedish botanist Carl Linneaus in 1737 in honor of the French botanist Pierre Magnol (1638-1715).   The plant which Magnol had described is what we now know as Magnolia virginiana an evergreen American species which despite its name was already growing in Europe by the mid eighteenth century.
