Gene Rader, age 81, died after accidentally amputating a foot with his riding lawnmower. He was the son of Herbert & Ethel Maze Rader of Annamoriah. Burial was in the Big Bend (Knight) cemetery.
Roberta Wilson, age 83, of Big Springs passed away. She had worked at Calhoun General Hospital/ Minnie Hamilton and was the widow of Bill Wilson who was the head honcho for Eureka Pipe Line Co.
Creston had a cloudburst on Wednesday. On Little Creek there was road damage at Big Run and on the Richardsonville Road, the culvert at the mouth of Black Snake was completely blocked. On W. Va. 5 the culvert at the mouth of Polecat was clogged making a respectable sized farm pond. Many other culverts and ditch lines were clogged causing water to impact the highway. One hour after the deluge there was so much water on W. Va. 5 at the rock quarry below Cherry that one could hydroplane. The storm also knocked out telephone and internet service to some Creston residents.
Seems the season is early this year and almost all of the peonies and iris will be gone before they can be picked to take to the graveyards for Decoration Day.

John Jones was attending to business in Creston & Hi Lee Herron was a business visitor in Elizabeth.

Wirt County’s graduation was Sunday. Kylee Blair and Skylar Bunch were Creston grads. Skylar was one of the recipients of the Landon Taylor $1,000 scholarships.
A Braxton County citizen who reads the Creston News wondered what ever happened to the “Roads to Prosperity” program. “Where did the $6 billion go?” Maybe it went to out of state contractors cutting tree tops along the roadways.
The big talk is the election and the problems that faced those who exercised their right to choose their elected leaders. In Calhoun County the poll workers didn’t know to tear off the tab on the paper that the voter had to give them. In Wirt County in different precincts there were problems which were said to be related to the wrong thickness of the paper used in the machines. There were insufficient paper ballots for folks to vote like in old times and folks were sent to different precincts, sometimes, it was said, being told you cannot vote here. With at least 3 very close races locally there is “some” turmoil.
Chris Rose, a real live coal miner who spent some time locally and was well thought of, won his primary in the northern counties. He spent $54,282.66 while the incumbent who lost spent $1,187,298.43.
Broadway Joe Manchin’s man won the US Senate race but his pick for governor lost to Patrick Morrrisey who had been vilified during the campaign.
State Senate president Craig “Baldy” Blair was defeated by 1500 votes in a three way primary while Sen. Patricia Rucker who he despised won her race in Jefferson County taking out Blair’s toady who Blair had run against her.. Sen. Rucker, before being removed as senate education committee chairwoman, had done more to reform education in the state since the state took over the counties in 1933. In the Book of Esther it is written, ” Behold also the gallows 50 cubits high which Haman had made for Mordecai . . . . .. so they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai.” At the state Republican meeting there was quite a bit of excitement for making Sen.
Rucker the new senate president and talk of the disaster if Tarr were to get the position. Some local legislators indicated that they were happy that Blair was “gone”.
Blair was a pusher for forced pooling which makes sure that W. Va. never reaps the correct rewards for having world class oil & gas fields. World wide ratings place United Arab Emirates as #4 and West Virginia at #5. Also there was the scheme to exempt from taxation $billions in “equipment” that sends oil & gas to other states & nations “all for the greater good”. Government agents were also forced to admit that most of the “misinformation” handed out during the plademic came from government sources.
The Jay Bee class action suit has been settled with $38 million to be paid by the company & $5 million from Randy Broida’s estate. Payment to those who were shorted will happen next year.
The NIH (National Institutes of Health) admitted that the US taxpayers funded the gain of function research in the Wuhan germ warfare lab that resulted in the Wuhan Kung Flu virus that killed millions world wide. Local residents still suffer the consequences of the germ warfare research.
The delinquent tax lists have been published in the local newspapers. Folks should check to make sure they, their neighbors, friends or relatives are not listed.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude is $79.06/bbl. with condensate fetching $61/06/bbl. with Marcellus & Utica light bringing $68.06 and medium $79.06/bbl.
