Two of Calhoun’s local Fire Departments have three new members ready to respond when duty calls. Russell Smith (Arnoldsburg VFD), Breann Tanner (Arnoldsburg VFD), and Dale Clark (Upper West Fork VFD) are now fully certified and will be great additions to their departments.
A volunteer fire fighter is an individual who voluntarily provides his or her services to protect the community. In areas such as Calhoun and many across the country, were it not for volunteers there would be no fire protection. Research has indicated that nearly seventy percent of the United States fire service staff is made up of volunteers. For several reasons, the number of volunteers keeps decreasing while call volumes are on the rise. This implies an urgent need for firefighters and an opportunity waiting for those who are willing to serve.
Contact your local fire service today to ask how to become a volunteer. Serving on the Fire Department is an opportunity to build your resume, serve your local community, build more than just friendships and have a sense of pride. Fire Chiefs Joe Tanner, Randy Perkins and David Johnson would be happy to answer your questions.
