The Town of Grantsville is seeking information regarding a hydrant knocked down in front of the Grantsville Post Office on Main Street Friday night or Saturday Morning. Unlike the movie depictions of a hydrant being knocked down and water shooting multiple feet in the air, Grantsville’s hydrants are known as a dry barrel hydrant. The valve is located approximately three feet below ground and the the hydrant has a break away sleeve that prevents water loss should something like this happen. Those in the movies are wet barrels with the valve at the top and are generally used in warmer climates.
The cost of repair to the hydrant will be around $350 for materials, plus labor.
