The Upper West Fork Park CAP would like to introduce the Sycamore Room. This building, located behind the main park building, received damage after the flood at the end of August 2023. The structure had 18 inches of water and flooded for the first time since its construction as an exercise room. As the exercise equipment stopped working and interest in the room waned, the park converted the room into a small meeting room, however, its usability was limited since it didn’t have a functioning kitchen or bathroom. In February of this year, the park, with the help of volunteers and Scout Troop 430, began repairing the flood damage and remodeling the building.
The Sycamore Room is a 24 feet by 24 feet space perfect for small meetings. It features beautiful sycamore lumber that was harvested from the park grounds during the flood mitigation project in the summer of 2023. These trees were sawed at a local mill, Leftover Farm LLC, and made into shiplap lumber to be used in this project. To minimize future flood damage, drywall was removed from the lower walls and a metal wainscot was added. The carpet was also removed, and floors were epoxied for easy clean-up. The Sycamore Room has a fully functional kitchen with a three-hole sink to meet food safety standards. The room also has a handicap accessible bathroom.
The Upper West Fork Park invites you to come check out our new addition, The Sycamore Room. The building will accommodate around thirty guests, so it is perfect for small meetings, birthday parties, baby showers, and more. If you would like to rent the Sycamore Room for your special occasion, please contact Terri Allen (304) 395-5213 / (304) 655-8111. Rental fees: $50 for 4 hours (11:00 – 3:00), (4:00 – 8:00), or $100 for the day. Hours can be flexible based on scheduling.
