Several high profile office holders, candidates and running mates attended the Calhoun Republican Lincoln Day Dinner at the Arnoldsburg Community Park on Saturday evening, February 17th. Governor Jim Justice spoke to a packed house at the annual event, holding a fireside chat in front of the park fireplace with Crystal Mersh.
The 175 attendees at the event were excited to hear from the Governor, Speaker of the House Roger Hanshaw and Secretary of State Mac Warner. All other candidates spent their time getting to know the other office holders and voters who attended the Election Season kickoff for Primary 2024.
Although each speaker had varying platforms for which they addressed, common threads ran through that struck cords in the hearts of their constituents. Patriotism was high on the list with promises to support the men and women defending our nation. And speaking of men and women, promises to restore the values and teaching of two genders, and controlling the ability of the medical community and others who encourage the radical surgeries for gender reassignment of children. And of course creating a more attractive State for business and work on the economy were popular topics.
The liberal agenda of the Calhoun Democrats has placed fear in the hearts of many causing the Democratic Party to be the lesser majority in Calhoun with a continuing exodus.
Gaylen Duskey, the lone Republican prior to the revitalization of the Party two years ago, was honored for his contribution to holding the party together when it seemed to be all but gone, and allowing for itās revival. Gaylen has had multiple health issues but was able to make last nightās event.
