Grinders, Calhoun’s very own Gourmet Coffee house will open Thursday morning in Grantsville, located across from the Calhoun County Courthouse on Main Street. Owners, Donnie and Kimberly Sweat, have spent the past 14 months preparing for this day. The couples remodeling of what was once known as Parson’s Jewelry, has made the building uniquely unrecognizable but filled with history. The stucko walls were almost entirely hand removed with the final treatment being an acid wash and power wash to reveal the brick. The original floors were beautifully restored and the ceiling tin came from the local Hupp Family farm on Riffle Ridge. Hickory wood was donated for the custom bar and back wall which all combine to make an industrial style that provides a great atmosphere for meeting friends.
Grinders is a family owned and operated business with Donnie, Kim, their children and Kim’s mother helping to staff the restaurant and prepare a menu of gourmet and specialty foods that are are 95% homemade. A menu of Soups, sandwiches and salads, all homemade breads and pastries, specialty coffees, with both hot and cold drinks will have something for everyone. Grinders meats are in-house smoked and cooked and offer a great selection of options for your dining pleasure.
The hours of business will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It’s hoped that there will soon be live mic nights and special video features to celebrate history, veterans and other events.
Donnie Sweat said that it has always been a dream to cook and serve people in a restaurant like they’ve created. They hope that the future will offer opportunities for them to grow into a well established and well known culinary treat for the citizens of their community.
