Robert Andrew Sampson of Chloe, West Virginia was arrested by Natural Resources Police Sergeant Charles R. Stephens on the charges of Count 1: Burning during fire season without a permit, Count 2: Failure to Safety Strip a Fire and Count 3: Illegal burning of refuse.
On November 25th, 2022, around 3:45 p.m. Sgt. Phillips and Sgt. Stephens were on patrol in the area of Walker Road when they drove past a residence with a fire burning across from a camper being tended by Robert Sampson. As they approached, Sampson began taking water from a nearby creek and trying to extinguish the fire. As they got closer Sgt. Stephens noticed the fire contained metals and remnants of refuse as well as being non-sufficiently stripped 10 feet around the fire.
Sgt. Phillips took photographs, and Mr. Sampson provided his identification card and was issued a citation for burning during fire season, failure to safety strip and illegal burning of refuse, which he signed agreeing to appear in Magistrate Court by December 10, 2022.
It was discovered that Robert Sampson did not appear and a warrant was requested for his arrest. He was arrested and taken to the WV Central Regional Jail on January 26th, 2022.
