Arnoldsburg resident Gail Butler has valid concerns but few solutions for the property owned by Laszlo Nemeth next door to her home. The home burned down in January 2022 leaving behind trash and other debris that creates a safety concern for Ms. Butler and her young grandson who spends a great deal of time at her home.
Ms. Butler told me that she had contacted multiple agencies including the WV State Fire Marshall, WV DNR and others, to find out who is responsible for the dwelling when an owner is incarcerated (although he is not listed as such on the WV Regional Jail site or the WV Department of Corrections.) She has yet to receive answers and fears for the safety of her own property and family with recent high winds blowing roofing tin and other burned debris into her dwelling and nearly hitting a vehicle owned by her father and into Route 33/119. The house is located in a turn which creates an even greater risk of accidents.
Ms. Butler said the community has had concerns for over three years with property tenants and drug use as well as their failure to have trash service. She recently contacted the West Virginia Department of Health due to the tenants stacking their trash in multiple rooms inside the dwelling creating mice and bug infestations. A representative from the Health Department was said to be scheduled to come and inspect the house, but it burned before they had the opportunity.
Ridgeview News was contacted in hopes of creating awareness and getting the attention of any agency who could possibly help with the situation before warmer weather creates additional problems for the Arnoldsburg area.
