Calhoun takes 3 wins home this weekend against Braxton County. On Saturday August 19th Calhoun Little Red Devils travelled to Sutton to take on the Braxton Redskins. The Flag Football team started the day off with a victory 9 scores to 8. Scoring twice each for the Little Devils was Gunner Burrows and Aaron Cunningham. While Jaxon Snodgress, River Parsons, Rylan Sampson, Jace Nicholson and Barrett Probasco each had one score.

Up next the C team played and showed the improvement we like to see in a young team. The game was much closer than the scoreboard showed as they fell to the Redskins 25-0. Offensively Ronan Haney had 9 carries for 32 rushing yards. Carper Summers added 21 yards on 3 carries and Raines Riddel also had 3 carries for 11 yards. Defensively Carper Summers led the team with 7 tackles. Raines Riddel had 5 tackles, Scarlett Probasco and Braxton Carter had 3 tackles each. Chase Parsons, Ronan Haney, Ryder Simmons and Zander Mccumbers had 2 tackles a piece. While Owen Heiney and Kaleb Butler each had 1 tackle.

The B team then had a battle that took until late in the 4th quarter to finally wrap up the win with a score of 27-20. Josh Hardbarger led the offensive attack with 203 yards rushing on 12 carries of the football. Hardbarger scored 2 touchdowns on the ground from 31 and 75 yards out. He also added 2 extra points. Brantley Schoolcraft had 6 carries for 20 yards. Jase Farley had 5 carries for 14 yards which included the go ahead touchdown in the 4th quarter from 2 yards out. Haygan Houchin rounded out the rushing attack with 2 carries for 12 yards. Houchin also completed 3 passes for 36 yards. He had a TD pass of 23 yards along with an extra point pass. Hardbarger had 2 of Houchins receptions for 26 yards. He was on the receiving end of Houchins 23 yard touchdown as well as the extra point. Brantley Schoolcraft added a reception for 10 yards. Defensively Hardbarger led the team with 14 tackles. Houchin added 8 tackles. Judd Helmick and Quinten Parkin had 3 tackles each. Jase Farley, Colton Heiney, Brantley Schoolcraft and Kyle Shook each had 2 tackles. Adam Francis rounded it out with 1 tackle on the day.

Braxton County did not have an A team, so Calhoun officially took home a win by Forfeit. Not wanting to take the weekend off though, we were able to schedule a scrimmage with South Charleston for the A team. While we had some doubting it would be a good idea to go into Charleston to play one of the “big” schools, our boys walked away leaving no doubt they didn’t care who they played. In a grid style game our boys played 30 plays of offense and 20 plays of defense before the Charleston team said they were finished for the day. In those 30 plays on offense Calhoun scored 11 touchdowns. The following players were able to reach the end zone Braydon Hardway, Tyler Mayle, Bentley Snodgress, Kason Stamper, Wyatt Lawson and Grayson Laughlin. Defensively the Little Devils held the Black Eagles to less than 10 yards on the 20 plays while forcing at least 4 turnovers.

Next weekend Calhoun will travel to Gilmer County to play the Little Pioneers on Sunday August 27. Gilmer also does not have an A team. So our A team will travel to Roane county on Saturday the 26th to scrimmage the Little Raiders.
