Secretary of State Mac Warner Reports 1,175 New WV Business Registrations for August of 2023

Charleston, W. Va. – The WV Secretary of State’s Office registered 1,175 new businesses statewide during the month of August according to Secretary of State Mac Warner.

Taylor County led the state in the percentage of new business growth through August with a total of 18 new business registrations, a 2.52% increase. The Secretary of State’s Business & Licensing Division reported that Lincoln, Summers, Mason and Doddridge Counties also experienced notable growth during the month.

Top five counties in new business growth:

  1. Taylor County – 2.52% growth.
  2. Lincoln County – 2.48% growth.
  3. Summers County – 2.18% growth.
  4. Mason County – 2.05% growth.
  5. Doddridge County – 1.87% growth.

Counties that lead the state in total businesses registered in August include Kanawha, Monongalia, Berkeley, Jefferson and Raleigh.

Top five counties in total businesses registered:

  1. Kanawha County – 133 new registrations.
  2. Monongalia County – 105 new registrations.
  3. Berkeley County – 94 new registrations.
  4. Jefferson County – 77 new registrations.
  5. Raleigh County – 75 new registrations.

Statewide, West Virginia registered 13,846 new businesses in the previous 12-month period, from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023.
