The graduating class of 2024 were encouraged by the words of former CHS Principal and Teacher, Mr. Robert Bonar who spoke to the 72 graduating seniors on Friday, May 17, 2024, as they awaited the opportunity to receive their diploma and turn the next page in the chapter of their lives. Mr. Bonar reminded the graduates that throughout Calhoun County’s history it has been no stranger to struggles, including the fire that tore through the former High School in Grantsville and made naysayers believe that Calhoun would never again have a high school; yet within just a few weeks classes were being held in multiple places while the repairs were made. And the rest is history.
The 2024 Valedictorian, Owen Taylor, and Salutatorian Emily Anderson left very few dry eyes amongst their classmates as well as in the audience with their emotionally charged speeches. The two showed what true school spirit looks like and that even with the world at their fingertips, it’s still hard to leave behind the amazing memories and friends they’ve made walking those halls.
Three students had already began their next chapter even before receiving their High School diploma by receiving an Associates Degree from Glenville State University. Teresa Stearns awarded the degrees to Mia Houchin, Emily Dennison and Trista Arnold.
