Sunday morning at 8:37am, The Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department was toned, along with the Ellenboro & Harrisville VFDs and the Ritchie County Ambulance Authority, for a house explosion with potential entrapment just outside of the city limits. Engine 12, Tanker 16, and Unit 10 responded. The Ambulance Authority was first on scene and confirmed a fully engulfed structure fire. Apparatus arrived on scene and requested additional departments from Cairo and nearby Greenwood to be alerted for water and manpower. The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department and WV State Fire Marshal were requested as well. As the fire became under control, it was confirmed two individuals had sadly perished as a result of the fire.
Due to the severe and tragic nature of this incident, The Pennsboro Fire Department did not provide any photographs of the fire. The appropriate authorities are investigating.
