The Local Swimming Pool is a Happening Hub of Community Health

For decades public swimming pools have played a vital role in the community, especially during the summer months. Countless families have fond memories of embarking on aquatic adventures at their local swimming pool. 

What makes public pool facilities special are the people and programs that work together to provide those meaningful experiences for families. The impact can be seen through the efforts of The 1982 Foundation staff and the Saundra Johnson Aquatic Center’s putting the time in to host special events.

This weekend’s “Shark Attack” movie night and night swim was a great success, as has been the many other efforts of those who work to create the success story of new pool.

Local Swimming Pools Foster A Sense Of Community

Public swimming pools serve as more than just a place to cool off on hot summer days. The pool provides opportunities to meet new people and reconnect with friends from school or the neighborhood, turning the local pool into a social hub that’s far healthier than children sitting at home on social media.

Beyond building a sense of community, the swimming pool is a great health benefit. Whether it’s for physical well-being or mental health, swimming offers health benefits for all ages through the low-impact exercise that benefits cardiovascular health, muscular strength, and endurance and the enjoyable environment is an added benefit. Swimming also helps reduce stress, improves mental health, and promotes relaxation. 

Regular hours of the Saundra Johnson Aquatic Center are Tuesday-Sunday, Noon to 6 p.m.
