On Thursday September 5th Calhoun County Middle School Football team kicked off their season as they travelled to Robert C Byrd High School to play against the South Harrison Hawks. The Red Devils came up short on the score board by a score of 26-6, however the game a closer than the score shows. The Hawks picked up a score late in the first half after an untimely Calhoun turnover, and twice Calhoun moved the ball deep into Hawk territory before stalling out. We definitely saw a positive foundation for the Red Devils to build off of and if a few small mistakes can be cleaned up the Red Devils will have a chance at a great season. The lone Red Devil score on the evening came when Quarterback Trevor Mayle made a great read on the Hawks defense and audibled to a pass play where he hit Kyrian Mounts for a 41 yard Touchdown through the air. The Defense was led by Ezra Anderson and Dayvon Mitchell. Anderson led the team with 8 tackles and Mitchell had 2 sacks and a Fumble Recovery.
The Red Devil Middle School squad will have their home opener on Thursday September 12 when Summersville will travel to Mt. Zion.
