On Monday September 16th Summersville Middle School Football team traveled to Mt. Zion to play our Red Devils. Summersville team had won the CWVAC championship the past 2 seasons and are traditionally in the playoffs each season. So as the game started everyone thought Calhoun would have their hands full. However, Calhoun came out of the gates hot and walked away with a 38-0 victory.
Due to injuries the Red Devils were making adjustments and changing players positions just 2 hours before the game started. Sam Bailey moved from the line to the backfield as one of these changes, and he found success running the ball. He carried the ball 11 times while gaining 70 yards on the ground. Bailey had rushing touchdown and added 3 two-point conversion rushes. Michael Richards and Ezra Anderson also added Rushing touchdowns. .
Ezra Anderson had previously played in the backfield in the position Bailey moved to, so this moved him out to a slot receiver role. Anderson had a big night with 4 receptions for 88 yards and a receiving Touchdown.
Trevor Mayle had a nice night at the quarterback position throwing 7 completions on 10 passing attempts. Mayle had 133 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns. One of the touchdowns was to Anderson and the other was to Braydon Hardway. Mayle also had a 2 point conversion throw to Michael Richards.
The Red Devils are back in action this Thursday September 19th when the Spencer Middle School team travels to Mt. Zion. The Red Devils hope to keep the momentum rolling and will look to get their second victory this week.
