Addicted to Hope

The 1982 Foundation held their third annual Recovery Month Event on the campus of Avalon, Saturday, September 21st, 2024. Event organizer, Aaron Spaur has been no stranger to the struggles of addiction but in celebrating his 13th year of sobriety, he now shares hope with those who stand along side him in recovery, and those who are in the midst of the battle.

The 1982 Foundation provided food and an opportunity for fellowship with friends and family who have known the heartache of healing and the loss of someone to addiction. Guest speakers shared soul stirring testimony of their battles with addiction and the cost, but also the wonderful experience of the successes.

In addition agencies such as Legal Aid of West Virginia, Peer Solutions, Westbrook Health Services, Angel’s Harbor, Calhoun County FRN, and the Domestic Abuse Response Team provided resources and prizes for the event.

The group shared in a time of prayer and remembrance with a butterfly release ceremony.

An opportunity for the community to help in recovery will available with the Recovery Center that is under construction in the former Calhoun bus garage.
