1982 Foundation Heritage Day Filled with Music & Memories

The annual Heritage Day brought former residents home and gave local residents the opportunity to shop, enjoy the car show and exhibits, and take one more tour through the school before it’s closed for the big reveal. Ridgeview was busy as a vendor and didn’t get the tour, but I’ve been promised the opportunity to do a video tour for everyone who didn’t get the chance to view it in person.

Several events were held throughout the day with more results to come. Below are results and video of a few of the happenings of the day.

Car Show Winners were:

  • Best of Show: Dr. and Mrs. Lang with their Chevy Blazer

Trophy Recipients:

  • Scott Schimmel – 32 Plymouth
  • Tommy Lewis – 55 Chevy Sedan
  • Allen Dawson – Chevy Pickup
  • Ren Vanay – Chevy Impalla
  • Danny Maxwell – Labamba
  • Calvin Wilson – Chevy pickup
  • Bill Stevens – F100 Ford
  • Larry Meadows – 34 Chevy
  • Curt Riggs – Dodge Dart
  • Tim Holbert – Can Am Outlander

Only three entrants for the Squirrel Classic delivered their goods, and all from the same family. The Butler boys, Noah, Nic and Logan delivered 8 squirrels between them. Nic’s squirrel brought in the most weight at a hefty 1.05 lb. as well as ugliest squirrel in after shooting his face off leaving just the skull. Needless to say we did not take pictures of the hunt. Noah brought in the most at five squirrels and the littlest of the Butler’s, Logan, brought in the Littlest squirrel.

Rick Falls and Bruce Jones and crew entertained with their phenomenal bluegrass talents throughout the day. Rick Falls and his many associates have contributed countless hours into keeping the heritage of bluegrass music alive in Calhoun and surrounding counties.

At the closing event the 1982 foundation awarded two grants. The first was for WAG (Welfare of Animals Group) who were awarded $2,000.00 as well as Carl and Chris Ballengee who were awarded $2,000.00 to help with the expenses incurred with their tracking dogs Quad and Gracie.

Volunteer of the year was awarded to Brandon and Whitley Cottrell for their contributions to the 1982 Foundation branding and service.
