The Gilmer Senior Center in Glenville, WV held their annual Veterans Day Event on Thursday, November 7th, 2024 with a banquet and program honoring the approximately 72-78 veterans in attendance. The Center hosts several events each year for the Senior Center but the Veterans Day event is the largest attended, showing their respect and pride for the men and women who gave so much for the Unites States.
The Thimbles & Threads Quilt Guild made beautiful Quilts of Valor to give to the older veterans in attendance.
Layne Jenkins, 91, of Stumptown, West Virginia was the oldest veteran in attendance, attending with his children Mark Jenkins, Deb Starcher Johnson, David Johnson, Granddaughter Andrea Starcher and Great Granddaughter Kali Starcher and daughter in law Shari Johnson.
Also receiving a Quilt of Valor were veterans, Dave Kemper, Jerry Helmick and Ronald Bennett.
Each of the quilt recipients were given the opportunity to say a few words about their service experience. Mr. Kemper added the worthwhile statement, “If all Christians got out of the Army we’d not have a good army, the same is true with politics.”
