Stephen A. White Obituary

Stephen Allen (best known as Steve) White of White Pine Road, Grantsville, West Virginia in Calhoun County passed away January 12, 2025 from a short illness at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System surrounded by family.

He was born December 19, 1944 to the late Royal and Alma (Kellie) White of White Pine. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in the class of 1964. During his time at school he kept a high academic, the love of playing baseball, and finding his passion learning wood work. After graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Thailand during that time he deployed to Vietnam. He served 5 years in The Air Force and received many accommodations.

At the completion of his service he came back to West Virginia to pursue his career in business and photography. He worked for the state as a photographer and continuing it as a hobby later in life traveling the state visiting state parks and landmarks capturing the beauty of the state, birds, flowers, structures, family, and memories. His love of photography became a gateway into other passions of his life of the wilderness and conservation. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman who truly enjoyed it. From making his own flies and lures to joining several conservation presentations such as Trout Unlimited, Arbor Day, West Virginia Bowshunters Association. When Steve wasn’t fishing he loved the art of wood crafting. He spent countless hours building jewelry boxes, frames, bowls, birdhouses, furniture, and more. He continued learning new skills at conventions and wood working classes throughout the state. He enjoyed the outdoors from the sun, planting trees, and gardening.
Lastly Steve was a family man he spent his time enjoying his children and grandchildren. This included everything from birthday parties, fishing trips, day trip outings, deer season, sport competitions, being the biggest fan, and of course family dinners.

He is survived by his daughter Maggie White (Greggory) Probasco, Stephen Gary White, Jared David (Whitney) White, sister in law Naomi White, nieces and nephews Tod (Jody) White, Randy (Laurie) White, Kathy (Tim) Ross, Danny, Dave, Deen, Doug, Vicki, Wayne, Sandy, Donna. Great nieces and nephews Lindsey, Jen, Nathan, Raymond, Andrea, Jake, Kyle, and Bryant. Grandchildren Trinity Probasco, Ellie White, Scarlett Probasco, Barrett Probasco, and Ryatt White.

He was preceded in death by his parents Royal and Alma (Kellie) White, siblings his sisters Wava and Carolyn; brothers Gary, Benny, Ronzel “Ron”, and Delbert “Joe”. Wife Patrica Ann (Osborne) White.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 107 Market St., Grantsville, WV, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Tim Hickman officiating.
