Oris Melvin Hicks, 89, of Grove City, Ohio passed away at home on February 12, 2025.
Mell was born in Roane County, West Virginia, to Beulah and Dallas Hicks and is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: James Hicks, Lois McDowell, Norman Hicks, and David Hicks, and his son Charles Melvin Hicks.
He is survived by his current wife Laura Hicks, first wife Joanne of Uniontown OH, children John Hicks of Atwater OH and Mellissa (Benjamin) Nixon of Medford MA; daughter-in-law Trisha Hicks of Cleveland OH, and grandchildren Hunter Hicks of Cleveland OH, Jessica Hicks of Cleveland OH, and Savannah Nixon of Medford MA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended loving family in West Virginia.
Mell has held many careers over his long life, he was an Air Force veteran, retired special duty patrolman for the Summit County Sheriff’s office, and retired certified HVAC technician, responsible for maintenance of large scale heating and cooling operations at plants such as Goodrich Tire Company and Meditech Software Company. After a work accident left him disabled in 1993, Mell dedicated his time to acts of service. He was constantly making different trinkets to make people smile, making battery powered lights to donate to hospitals in Honduras, and volunteering at the VA Hospital in Ohio.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg Road, Arnoldsburg, WV, 25234, with Rev. Jim Lough officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Clark Jarvis Cemetery, Chloe, WV. Online condolences may be shared at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com.
