Creston News Week of May 12th

Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

R. P. Marks was calling at the Creston Space Dock

The Creston area continues to have rain but just down in Wood County there were two days with some golf ball sized hail.  Now is the time tomato plants can safely be set out without covering but it was reported that there was some frost circa May 9.  So much for Junior Gore’s global warming hoax.

Both the Wirt & Calhoun road crews mowed the berm on W. Va. 5.  It had always been policy to get the roads mowed before Decoration Day.  The road crew applied herbicide liberally in the Creston area.  Apparently it is policy to make sure the state’s citizens get their “required” exposure and for certain it is imperative that the state’s vendors get well paid from the taxpayers.  Those brown banks along the roadway are supposed to be ‘scenic’.

Some new holes have appeared in the Creston bridge across the Little Kanawha.  One has to be careful.  Also the out of state paint crew came through painting new yellow center lines.

The comely Kim spent Mother’s Day with her mother, Wilma Mowrey.

Some chicken thief made off with Barbara Wright’s only rooster.

Some local folks motored to Mason County to see the construction of the Nucor Steel Mill.

Debbie Griffin was calling on Mr. & Mrs. A. C. Marks & sons.

The USDA [United States Department of Agriculture] multiflora rose in bloom reminding folks that bad government policies never go away.  Some have suggested that the corpulent bureaucrats be required to spend years removing the roses by hand .  Also in bloom are irises, mock oranges and peonies.

A good while back Mother Hope (Hope Gas) announced that 1100 miles of gas gathering lines were to be abandoned & folks on those lines could convert to propane or electric heat.  There were meetings in Clarksburg, Weston, Grantsville & Ellenboro.  At first the Rockefeller men said the lines were “for giveaway”
“as it would take $9 million to bring them ‘up to snuff'”.  Then at the Grantsville meeting a Gilmer County producer said, “I’ll take them”.   Then there was talk with Rusty Hutson, jr. (Diversified Gas & Oil) and the sum of $19 million although at the Ellenboro gathering the Hope man said the money talk wasn’t appropriate.  There were to be more meetings but they were all cancelled and it was said that Hope Gas (the Rockefeller gas utility) was just going to keep all the lines and file a rate increase.  AT the Grantsville meeting the PSC (Public Service Commission) man talked but at Ellenboro he was silent even though he is a “consumer advocate”.  It should be noted that back around 1910 the Hope Natural Gas Company was the Rockefeller gas company in this part of the state with wells, gas lines, compressor stations and, among other things, domestic and commercial natural gas customers.  Hope Gas is the new iteration of the old company “but we don’t own gas wells” and we acquired the lines from “another name” Rockefeller company so feel sorry for us.  Why, don’t you know the old Hope office was in Clarksburg but our new office is in Morgantown.  Of course the Grantsville  meeting was in the old Hope office and the old Hope retirees noted that they had heard “all the B S before”.

Now a press release has come out to all the local papers stating the Hope Gas has made its first rate increase request in five years and the increase does not have to do with the price of natural gas which is much cheaper than it was five years ago.  Mother Hope noted that since 2019 there has been an increase in the Consumer Price Index of 25.38% otherwise known as the inflation caused by the Junta acting for the senile one.  Get ready for the PSC to jack up the rates so that the Rockefeller family children can afford new shoes.

At Sen. Donna Boley’s breakfast delegates Scott Heckert & Bob Fehrenbacher discussed the doings at the recent legislative session. Of local interest was the “Microgrid Bill” which allows the construction of Data Centers & power plants to run them  that are not on the electric grid.  Rumor has it that there might be one in Wood County.  There had been an effort for Wirt County but, apparently not of consequence for those who count.  One had been proposed in Tucker County as well.

John Griffin was calling on Jerry Belt.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose to $60.02/bbl. With condensate, formerly called Appalachian light sweet fetching just $42.02/bbl. And Marcellus &Utica light selling for $49.02/
