Murphy Awaits Trial for Domestic Assault & Battery

Sergeant K.M. Williams of the West Virginia State Police was dispatched to East Little Kanawha Highway, Grantsville, WV on Sunday, June 1, 2025 for a disturbance. The victim advised that 21 year old Dakota Allen Murphy was “causing issues, breaking things, that he was flying off the handle and she was scared he was going to hurt her.”

On the same date, at approximately 10:44 p.m., Sgt. Williams located the male, later identified as Dakota Murphy, walking west on East Little Kanawha Hwy. He transported Mr. Murphy back to the residence where the officer spoke to a neighbor who advised that he heard what sounded like the victim getting slammed against the wall, and could hear them yelling and screaming at each other.

Sgt. Williams spoke to the victim who advised that Dakota Murphy had threatened to kill her, pulled a knife on her
and had also threatened to kill the neighbors. She further stated that he took a swing at her but she moved out of
the way before he could make contact.

Sgt. Williams completed a DLAG (Dangerousness-Lethality Assessment Guide) form which is a research-based guide for systems interacting with families experiencing domestic violence. That form affirmed the above statement and also stated that Dakota Murphy is becoming more controlling, more violent, drinking and using drugs more often.

Murphy was placed under arrest for Domestic Assault and Domestic Battery under case number 25M07M00115. He was processed at the Clay County Detachment and is awaiting trial at the WV Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
