In a Magistrate Complaint filed before Magistrate Richard Postalwait on Monday, September 15, 2025 by Trooper W.T. Raines, the officer stated that a trespassing complaint at the address of 988 Sugar Camp Road, Big Bend, Calhoun County, West Virginia had been made in reference to unauthorized person (s) remaining at this address after Calhoun County Sheriff G. Knight served a Writ of Execution and ordered the occupant to vacate the premise.
While in route, Sheriff Knight advised that any subjects other than the property owner and complainant, were criminally trespassing.
Trooper W.T. Raines and members of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office observed an ATV which was loaded with property and ATV style helmet on the ground as if the rider had dropped the helmet and vacated the area. The Officers searched around the property for over five minutes and located a males wallet “Joey Goodrich”. Shortly after Sheriff Knight observed boots underneath a small porch. Sheriff Knight advised the male to crawl out and he did not move or comply. Sheriff Knight advised the male to show his hands, and he did not comply. This Trooper grabbed the male subject and pulled him out from underneath the porch and detained him.
Trooper Raines asked why he was hiding underneath the porch and the male advised he was sleeping there. This Trooper asked if he was wanted and the male advised he was not.
Trooper Raines ran his name, Joey Eaton Goodrich hereinafter
referred to as the above-named defendant, via West Virginia State Police – South Charleston Communications Center (WVSP – SCCC) and was advised that he is actively wanted for two felonies in Wirt County:
- Sex Abuse by Parent
- Revoked DUI 3* Offense
Trooper R. Sanatana and Trooper C.L. Cronin both contacted Trooper Raines and advised that they had been searching for Joey E. Goodrich for over a month.
Trooper Raines requested probable cause and arrested Joey Goodrich for the following offenses:
- §15-2-16 False Statements to West Virginia State Police
- §61-5-17(a) Obstructing officer (Non-compliance & Attempted Concealment)
- §61-3B-3 Trespass on property other than structure or conveyance 1s Offense
The above crime(s) were committed within geographic boundaries of Calhoun County, West Virginia.
Goodrich was released from custody after paying a $1,000 bond. Mr. Goodrich is considered innocent until proven Guilty.
