
Trooper WT Raines of the Grantsville Detachment of the WV State police attempted to stop a Motorcycle at Family Dollar when the driver began rapidly accelerating and illegally passing traffic traveling Eastbound on U.S. Route 33/119.
Trooper Raines engaged the emergency lights and the driver continued to accelerate reaching speeds between 64 and 70 MPH in a 55 MPH Zone. He initiated emergency lights and sirens at the Y Intersection of WV Route 16 and U.S. Route 33/119.
The Trooper pursued the motorcycle for several miles down WV Route 16 noting that this vehicle maintained speeds between 64-70 MPH and failed to keep in the proper lane of travel. The vehicle made an abrupt and sporadic turn onto Rush Run Road, Orma, in Calhoun County, West Virginia nearly crashing. The Trooper noted shortly after that incident the bike crashed on the bridge crossing the West Fork.
Trooper Raines detained the driver / accused, Houstin Kyle McCune, age 27 and passenger, Savanna Taylor Resko.
The Troopr contacted the West Virginia State Police – South Charleston Communications Center (WVSP – SCCC) to check
both driver’s status and warrants. McCune was actively suspended for miscellaneous reasons but did not have any prior convictions or warrants for such.
The license plate displayed on the motorcycle identified as a 2002 Suzuki DRS 400 Dual Sport Motorcycle bearing registered to Stephen Bruce Wagner. This Trooper noted that this motorcycle also did not have a current WV State Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker.
Mr. McCune does not have a current Motorcycle F Permit or Endorsement and failed to produce his operator’s license which is actively suspended. McCune also advised he did not possess a valid WV Certificate of Insurance at the time of this incident.
Based off this incident Trooper Raines charged McCune with the following:

§17B-2-9. License to be carried and exhibited on demand
§17B-2-7b No Motorcycle Endorsement
§17A-3-16. Expiration of registration and certificates of title
§17D-2A-3 No Insurance
§61-5-17(f) Fleeing with reckless indifference
Houstin McCune is currently being held in the WV Central Regional Jail on a bond of $25,000.00
Mr. McCune is considered innocent until proven guilty.
