McCumbers Preliminary Hearing Continued for No-Show Attorney

Jacob Daniel McCumbers, charged with 50 counts of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Custodian, or Person of Trust appeared before Jackson County Magistrate Tamra Milhoan, who is covering for recused Calhoun Magistrates, along with Doddridge County Prosecutor L. Elizabeth Coffey. Missing in the equation was Attorney Jett, defense attorney of Mr. McCumbers.

McCumbers stated that he was told she would appear, but the attorney being a no-show caused the case to be continued.

The hearing took place shortly after 1 p.m. in the Magistrate Courtroom on the first floor. McCumbers appeared with family in support, but due to the missing Defense Attorney he filed for himself a Request for Continuance of Preliminary Hearing without the advice of Council.

By law Preliminary Hearings must be held within 20 days from the date of arrest, but McCumbers waived the time frame as well.

The hearing has been rescheduled for October 20th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Magistrate Courtroom on the first floor once more.

Before the hearing began, Magistrate Milhoan instructed Jacob McCumbers that a mandatory HIV test was required within 48 hours or she would forfeit his bond. McCumbers stated that he would go to the WV Health Department and get the test administered as soon as possible.

Following the hearing a search warrant was issued and served on McCumbers for DNA.
