Gary Michael Ferrell—The Man, the Myth, the Legend — passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Darel Ferrell (Budgy); stepfather, Carl Leasure; his brother, Todd Ferrell; and his sister, Michelle Preston (Ferrell).
He is survived by his mother, Betty Leasure (Westfall); his brother, Dustin Shelley (Sabrina); his significant other, Jess; his son, Justin Bunner (Amber); his son, Todd Ferrell; his daughter, Cassandra (Dani) Thornsbury; his son, Juston Ferrell (Dana); his son, Dylan Ferrell (Lindsay); his daughter, Nikita (Ronnie) Stone; a slew of grandchildren whom he loved dearly; and his raccoons, Frick and Frack.
There are no words that would accurately describe Gary. He was a hardworking, oneofakind man who loved a good adventure, which usually consisted of whitewater rafting, camping, golf, or hunting.
If he picked on you, congratulations—you were part of his “pack.” His quick wit, playful remarks, and talent for getting the last word kept family and friends laughing, groaning, and occasionally shaking their heads. He had a gift for humor and perfectly timed jokes.
Beneath the jokes and friendly mischief was a genuinely kind heart. Gary cared fiercely and showed up for the people in his life—frequently with sarcasm.
He leaves behind a family and group of friends who will miss his laughter, his teasing, and the way he could turn even ordinary moments into stories worth retelling. Life will be quieter without him… and, honestly, a little less entertaining.
In the words of Gary himself, if any of his kids inherited his character traits—and they most certainly did—then he “will live on forever.”
A celebration of life will be held for Gary at the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
