Cleston D. Garrett Obituary

Cleston D. Garrett, 86, of Arnoldsburg, found his way home to his Heavenly Father on July 10, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House, with family by his side.

He was born on December 15, 1939, to the late Willard and Louie Garrett in Arnoldsburg and that’s where he continued to live out his life.

He was a member and Pastor of Arnoldsburg Community Church for many, many years.

His first job was a pipeliner, which he never got out of his system, even after retiring to open his own used car lot, Garretts Used Cars and Trucks, with his wife, Kay. Only Cleston could carry off being a preacher and a used car salesman!

Cleston was the kind of man that would help anyone – giving credit to many when no one else would, which is why sometimes it was a good thing he had the Lord in his corner. His character and personality were like none other.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Kay (Fox) Garrett; children, Dawayne (Lori) Garrett, Denise (Timmy) Carter, Jackie (Rick) Boatright, Denny (Stacey) Fox and Julie (Danny) Garrett; grandchildren, Nickolas (Tiffany) Garrett, Quinton (Melanie) Garrett, Dustin Crislip, Ryleigh Garrett, Adam Carter, Bridget Carter, Chasity Garrett, Kyerstan Perkins, Hanna Fox, Brady Fox, Kyleigh (Zach) Hosey, Kinley (Lane) Busam, Keyton Garrett, Ryan, Colten, Savannah and Ezekiel Wagoner; great grandchildren, Audrey, Ella, Aiden, Ashton, Maycee, Braxton, Kolton, KarLee, Garrett, PaisLee, Kase, Sayler and his extra special ones, Grayden and Annistyn, who always put a pep in his step and a sparkle in his eye; sisters, Wilma Momery and Maudie Pfamatter; sister-in-law, Leah Garrett; special brother and sister-in-law, John and Leona Chandler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Houchin Marks; brothers, Hurthel and Robert Garrett; sisters, Mildred Justice and Arlena Gray.

Much appreciation goes to his caretakers and buddies at Minnie Hamilton Long Term. Especially Britney, Annette, Heather, Adrianna, MaryEllen and Tracy, who all went a little extra for his comfort.

Teays Valley Hospital Staff and Hubbard Hospice House showed him and his family the kind of compassion we should all strive for.

Our dad will be greatly missed by many but after the battle he fought courageously for many years with Alzheimer’s, he deserved the victory! He would want everyone to remember – “Get right and hold on tight to Jesus”

Per his wishes, Cleston will be cremated.

A church service in his honor, at the Arnoldsburg Community Church, will be announced at a later date.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family.
