Denise Bunner was back to her winning ways at the Creston Bingo event on Saturday although some others won a game or two.
The fall Creston ATV Poker Run is Saturday September 26 and the day starts out with Biscuits & gravy.

The Wirt School Board, likely at the urging of former super Daniel Metz, voted 3 to 2 to float a big bond issue to build a new high school for declining enrollment. Oh, the cost is small, etc. Older residents remember when then Supt. Waymond F. Riley built a new school building and the corruption was unreal. That was the year no one got high school rings as those funds were likewise “appropriated for the benefit of others”. As they say, “You can’t make money just taking care of what you have; you have to spend the big bucks.”
Labor Day weekend started out with heavy rain so there should be plenty of mud for those who plan to check out their chariots. The river is up again. Before the rain resumed the ground was very, very dry even though it had been a wet summer.
The political folks, especially the far left folks who promise all the “free” stuff claim that things are bad now because of the bad orange man & high fuel prices because of the war with Iran, the place that has chanted “Death to America” for the last 47 years and the man made sure that the terrorists will not have a nuclear bomb to send to us. Of course gasolene was higher under Biden [but that was good they said so we would ride on the light rail train]. Yeah, sure. Back a century ago one could in many places but we “got modern” and the tracks were taken up decades ago. Presently one can purchase gasolene in Elizabeth for $3.70/gallon. Shortly after Trump took office again he was criticized because the price of eggs didn’t immediately drop even though chicken populations had to be built back up. Now eggs in Ohio Amish country can be purchased for $1.50/dozen. There are complaints about the high price of beef but the number of cattle in the nation is at a 50 year low and it will take time for the number to recover. The US Dept. of Agriculture put (over the years) 97% of farmers out of business [Bigger is better don’t cha know.] and there have been anti meat activists in the government for years. Prior administrations allowed foreign nations, Brazil & China to control huge parts of the meat market and now we reap the “rewards”. Some may remember that when Albert Gore Junior was the Clinton’s VP he said that we should get all our food from third world countries and such was pushed. Bill Clinton had a friend in Brazil that grew tobacco and as a result the domestic tobacco industry was shut down. Wirt County used to be a significant tobacco county.
Arlis Miller, age 87, died in Parkersburg. For years he was head of the welfare program in Calhoun County and he was a straight shooter in an outfit that, well . . . .
Diane Weaver, age 76, passed away at Miletree. She, along with her husband, operated the Hur Herald for many years.

Dictator Xi was found out with his “BOT farm” pretending to be U. S. Citizens who had opinions about energy and data centers. For certain those who oppose such should stop using their cell phones. Also prime farmland should never be used for industrial use, ordinary folks should never have to pay for the power for others and water resources always need to be protected. W. Va. State Treasurer Larry Pack has come out with some numbers concerning the Google plant in Putnam County & the Perizance Management facility in Berkeley County. The two facilities will generate $103 million annually in property taxes and under current rules 62% would remain in the county.
PJM the electric grid operation that oversees electric to the Creston area [and surrounding states] is facing problem supplying power at a cost ordinary folks could afford. Bad decisions by corrupt and ignorant politicians have placed reliable power in a precarious position as it has been determined that pixie dust just doesn’t work and the wind mills & solar panels make some very rich but do not supply reliable power. It was noted that the quickest solution is the building of more gas fired power plants. Folks in the “western suburbs” of Creston have had power outages this past week and land line telephones were out Saturday morning. Some have problems understanding that there are places where cell phones do not work.
Over in Belpre Ohio Knox Energy has had to advise their domestic gas customers that they have to find alternate fuel sources as the company cannot obtain natural gas for their customers. Such is the middle of the largest oil & gas field on the planet is absurd.
For those who are looking at higher domestic gas bills the following actual example might be enlightening. In June 173 MCF of gas went through the meter which was 261 MMBTU and the “line loss” reduced that number to 214 MMBTU at the price of $1.9065 = $407.99 less the transport @ 55 cents ($143.55) = $264.44. The numbers speak for themselves.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil is $89.30/bbl. With condensate fetching $72.30/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $79.30/bbl. Ohio & Pennsylvania oil is one dollar higher.
