The big fall Creston ATV poker run will be Saturday September 26. Come early for a full day of fun, a great ride and, for some, a chance to see just what their chariot can do. For those we would recommend winches, tow straps, tire repair kits, extra parts and a buddy to assist in extrications. Also, it will be the last chance to buy a chance on the quilt as the winner will be drawn at noon [do not have to be present to win.]
There were over 50 at the Grim reunion at the Creston Community Building. At 95 Vance Grim was the oldest followed by Ira J. Lynch, Sr. There was food, visiting, door prizes & a Chinese auction. There was even a Turtle twin at the gathering. Vance noted that she was the cook where he lives. One couple (Wanda’s daughter) got their timing wrong and showed up just as folks were leaving.
Dorothy Lynch, age 86, widow of Robert Lynch died September 2 at Danbury Assisted Living in Ohio. She met Robert when some of her family were cutting timber near Creston and after Robert retired they returned to Creston. She was also a member of Randolph County’s Croation community.
The local area continues to have storms & rain. On Saturday there was local flooding in Parkersburg but nothing locally although the river remains high. Some hay was harvested between rains.
There was a large gathering of dragonflies at Creston as they are on their migration to the sunny south.
Some while back there was quite a bit of excitement in Creston when the folks from ICE were looking for an illegal alien who was scheduled for return to country of origin. One day last week the senorita was apprehended near Nobe.
Some local folks motored to Marietta to see the sternwheelers.
Debbie Griffin was consulting her ophthalmologist & Barbara Wright was visiting her physician as was Nancy Engelke.
Local folks have been having troubles with the telephones. On Sunday it was discovered that some dead box elders, covered with poison ivy had knocked down the line just at the outskirts of Creston going up the Ann’s Run road.
The power company folks have installed some more new poles on and near the dePue farm along the straight.
As one goes up the Woodring road going upriver there was a problem with the telephone line and it was said to have been fixed. The Oil Hauler’s truck had to call for assistance for someone to hold up the line for the tanker to get under it. Perhaps the Wild Frontier folks can fix it.
The Creston Halloween Party will be Saturday October 24 starting at 5 P. M. The Creston Party has traditionally been a party for “children of all ages”
Work has started at the $10 billion 2GW data center in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. There will be 3000 construction jobs and 640 permanent positions.
Presently there are 1800 working on the power plant & data center in Homer City Pennsylvania.
Starwood Digital Ventures plans a $12 billion data center at West Columbia in Mason County & they say they are going to get electric from the PJM grid. This is considered to be a major part of the newest industrial revolution and some places lead and others are left in the dust.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose to $100.48/bbl. With condensate fetching $83.48/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $90.48/bbl. Of course we get no oil from Iran but the scare mongers have been busy — “oh there is a coming shortage” Long term government programs have prevented refineries being built in America and now there is said to be a shortage of diesel — who knows the truth? Natural gas elsewhere is $2.83/MMBTU. From a historical perspective Parkersburg once had 12 refineries and, obviously, there were some in Marietta Ohio.
