Kimberly (Evans) Hoffman, 62, of Asheville, NC (formerly of Glenville, WV), passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 2, 2026. She managed to pack more love for her husband, children, and especially her grandchildren into her 62 years than seemed possible.
She was born January 31, 1964, in Weston, WV; daughter of Joe and June (Marks) Evans of Glenville.
Kim was a graduate of Gilmer County High School, Class of 1982. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Glenville State University, and a Doctorate in Science Education, from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Kim met Doug Hoffman in Hattiesburg, MS, while pursuing her doctorate. Kim and Doug were married, in Glenville, on June 24, 1989.
Together, they raised two children while building a life filled with soccer games, cheerleading competitions, and endless camping trips. Kim worked as a middle school and high school educator for many of those years; she was always a teacher at heart.
Kim and her family lived in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and even Shanghai, China. Kim and Doug eventually settled down in Asheville, NC, and have called the mountains home for the past 11 years.
Kim became a grandmother in 2022 and spent the last four years dedicated to bringing excessive amounts of laughter and unbridled joy to her grandchildren. She embraced every moment of being Grandma Kim, creating countless memories and filling their lives with fun, love, and adventure, all while reminding them that “Grandma Kim is Number One!”
Kim is survived by her parents, Joe and June Evans; her husband Doug Hoffman; her loving children, Phil Hoffman and his wife Anna, two grandchildren, Thomas and Luke; Grace Hoffman and her partner Chris Forcinito; her brother, Kevin Evans and his wife Traci, and two nieces, Tara Evans; Ashley Chafin and her husband Kyle.
Kim’s celebration of life will be conducted at Glenville Presbyterian Church, 1172 WV Hwy 5 West, Glenville, WV 26351, Saturday, October 17, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Elizabeth Lewis officiating. Family and friends will be received from noon to 2:00 p.m., also at the church.
Due to Kim’s disdain of cut flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Heart Association Go Red for Women or the charity of your choice.
Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., is assisting the family of Kimberly Evans Hoffman with cremation arrangements.
