GLENVILLE, WV – The 2022 Glenville State University Faculty Award of Excellence recipient is Associate Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Wenwen Du. Du was recognized at the spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7.
“I am deeply grateful for this acknowledgement of my work by my colleagues, college leaders, and more importantly – students. It is a great feeling to know that I am on the right track. I hope I will continue to prove myself an asset to GSU in the years to come,” he said.
Du has taught at Glenville State since 2014. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics, a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education, and a master’s degree in materials science from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He also earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in materials science and engineering from Southeast University in China. He teaches courses in calculus, algebra, and more.
Outside of his classroom obligations, Du is a co-advisor for Glenville State’s chapter of Chi Beta Phi and is a member of the campus Curriculum Assessment Committee. He has also been a member of Glenville’s Faculty Senate and Promotion and Tenure Committee, and the WV Higher Education Math Task Force.
“I am very thankful for the friendly work environment here at Glenville State. My colleagues provided incredible support and mentoring to me,” he said. In his personal time, Du enjoys hiking, running, and watching sporting events, particularly soccer, football, and basketball. He also runs material science research using mathematics, mostly during the summer and winter breaks.
Du and his wife Christine Wang have two children, Krystal and Charles Du. They split their time between Glenville and Lexington. His father, Li Du, also resides in Glenville.
