Family Resources Director, Tina Persinger, invited the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department to speak to youth at their Summer Fun/Feeding program. Chief David Johnson spoke to children and families about fire and home safety and the role of local emergency services. Following the event everyone enjoyed Rootbeer Floats made to celebrate National Black Cow day.
The Summer Fun Feeding Program provides Lunch Packs sponsored by the Mountaineer Food Bank and FRN activities for kids under the age of 18. The program is offered Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to activities such as the Fire Department visit they do crafts , field trips and each day they host a story time for a 100 day reading challenge.
Children receive their very own book to keep on Fridays as well and anyone from the community can access the lending library, (red mailbox) in front of the FRN office to borrow and return books available there.
Each Friday the youth are given a weekend meal sack with daily nutrition sponsored by The 1982 Foundation. For more information about this or any of the many other programs the FRN is involved with, contact FRN at 304-354-7177
