Replacing police cruisers is an integral part of maintaining safety for the officers and the citizens of Calhoun County. But how those vehicles are determined to be replaced varies among different agencies and counties. Budgets vary, support varies and the number of vehicles needed certainly differs from county to county. But one thing that does not differ is the danger an officer faces on any given day. They not only rely on the weapons they carry for safety, but the vehicle that carries them as well. The last thing any officer would want to face is a vehicle breaking down at an inopportune time.
Earlier this week the Sheriff’s four wheel drive was seen loaded on the back of Westfall’s wrecker and now sits at Smith’s Auto Parts in Grantsville awaiting repair. This morning as Ridgeview News passed Bakers Mart in Grantsville, the 2nd Cruiser was sitting with the hood up, which caused me to wonder if it was just general maintenance or was something wrong with the car. It turns out that there was ”oil in the gas” which could possibly point to an injector issue according to a mechanic.
This raises the question once again ”When will the Calhoun County Commission take the issue serious and replace the vehicles? Before or after a call goes unanswered, or the Sheriff’s department is the call?”
