The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department and the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department and Minnie Hamilton Health System’s Ambulance responded to a brush fire on Two Mile Road close to the Calhoun – Ritchie County line. The fire burnt 1.75 acres according the WV Division of Forestry.

Forester Jesse King would like to remind everyone that it is an early fire season this wear due to weather conditions drying out the forest floor. Please hold off on burning debris on windy, dry days. You must be with your fires at all times and a minimum ten foot dirt ring is required.

As Smokey the Bear would say, “Only you can prevent wildfires.”
