The Calhoun County Commission will meet with the community on Thursday, May 12th, 2022 at 6 p.m. to allow an open forum for the discussion of community concerns. This is not an official County Commission meeting where voting takes place, but rather it offers citizens an opportunity before the general meeting to discuss matters informally.
Although no formal agenda is introduced, a few questions that are set to be ask, and have been sent in advance to the County Commission are:
1. With regards to the auditor comments, ”When will the corrective actions for segregation of duties be in place? What are they? And how do we know in the past whether or not funds were diverted when the same person receives fees and does the reporting?”
2. Regarding the issues last night with counting votes…..what are the corrective actions? When will they be in place? And how can we have assurance that this will not happen in the general election?
3. Jean Simers stated during the election result returns, that “she could not touch the computer,” but that changed. So what precluded her in the first place…was it because she was on the ballot? And then what changed that allowed her to work at the computer?
4. A matter that has not been sent to the commission but Ridgeview News will ask is concerning the failure of the levy. What is the Commission’s plans to address the deficit of $260,000 from the Ambulance service Levy failure? What about the Volunteer Fire Departments loss of funding?
There will be live coverage, but the video will not be monitored for questions and comments due to the location of the camera being at the commission desk for volume. The community is highly encouraged to attend and show their support and concern for county governing.
