WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) released the following statement on the Major Disaster Declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that has been granted to Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Harrison, and Kanawha Counties in West Virginia.
Congresswoman Miller and the West Virginia delegation sent a letter to President Biden and FEMA in November urging a Major Disaster Declaration due to damages caused by heavy rains and flooding in August.
“I am grateful for this Major Disaster Declaration which will allocate funding for our counties affected by the storms in August, to rebuild, repair, and remain successful,” said Congresswoman Miller. “This funding is critical for our communities and will provide the necessary support to my constituents as they get back on their feet. I will continue working with the federal government to make sure West Virginians have all the resources they need in the midst of natural disasters.”
Background:
- The Major Disaster Declaration will release federal funding that may be used to fix damages in Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Harrison, and Kanawha Counties.
- The federal funding will be distributed under the Individual Assistance (IA) program which reimburses individuals impacted by the disaster for expenses that could not be met through insurance or other forms of assistance.
