Although the property closing or final plans are far from ready, the property to be purchased by the Calhoun County Commission has been Announced. The property, located barely down Country Lanes off South Calhoun Highway, Mt. Zion, was said to be 4-5 acres, house, pole barn and trailer which will provide a central location for a community animal shelter. Ritchie County has graciously assisted Calhoun over the years in providing a place to bring animals, but they too have limited space.
For groups such as WAG (the Welfare of Animals Group) this is an answered prayer for their organization who receives constant calls for abandoned animals.
