Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.
The Creston summer ATV poker run is scheduled for Saturday July 30 with signups until noon. The route was checked out on Saturday and there had to be a significant amount of “timbering” as several large trees were blocking the trail. Make sure that one has a full tank as the route is 66 miles long & goes through some fun riding areas, a few of which will require some caution. Travis Burdette who has been helping with the routes for some years did not get to go as he was badly injured when a truck pulled out in front of his motorcycle at an intersection up in Ohio. However, his comely sister Sarah helped as did her dad Sonny, Ted Grim, Ed Shaw, Leon Jurasik, Marty deVries, Mike from Brooksville & Harrison Schenerlein.
Dallas R. “Dickie” Ball, age 90, passed away. A Grantsville native who picked up a Texas accent during s short sojourn there was the “pusher” for Wade Oil Company when they were drilling in the Creston area back in the 1970s.
There was a typo in last week’s column regarding a decree concerning reducing land use in the United States. 30% of US land & water is to be “hands off” by 2030, not 2040. Of course, such is illegal but just recently the U S Marshalls raided an Amish farmer near Lancaster Pennsylvania for selling organic meat with no preservatives. In the new world order we are not to eat meat & all sources of food are to be under the control of the “new harmonious society” run by globalists who answer to no one. One might take note of what happened in Canada, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). America’s star example of how thing will be is the fiasco over baby formula — plenty for the illegal aliens but scarce as hen’s ‘ teeth for American citizens.
Some local residents motored up to Magnolia Ohio for the Ergon catfish fry there put on by Clay, Carol, Remy & the crew. It is said that the reason the catfish taste so good is because there is a special blend of Pennsylvania grade crude into the cooking oil.
The elderly gentleman who ofttimes shakes hands with the air came down with Dr. Fauci’s virus as did some local folks, some of whom are quite sick. Dr. Brix, the lady with the fancy scarves, said that the virus came out of the lab read to infect people and Dr. Fauci [and no doubt others] sent US taxpayer dollars to the germ warfare lab to make the pestilence that has killed now millions and will be forever with us. She also admitted that she ‘lied’ to get president Trump to do what “they” wanted done. Now, it seems that the death rate is up significantly among the vaccinated and the life insurance folks are very concerned, to say the very least. [But such is not news.]
Connie Boggs finishes up her cancer treatments on Monday. She has had it pretty rough and needs prayer.
Jane Engelke, Rae & Harrison Schenerlein are visiting the home folks in Creston.
Some folks are making plans for the Wirt County Fair.
It is reported that there is to be a big push to promote “Amendment One” so one will no longer have to pay taxes on your car. It is so wonderful, vote yes “and we wouldn’t lie to you or lead you astray”. The proposed amendment is a “wet dream” for the teacher’s unions since it would abolish the 1932 taxation limitation amendment that protected owner occupied homes & farms from prohibitive tax rates. Also there have been those down at the Mouth of the Elk for decades who said that homeowners should bear more of the burden of taxation so as to lower the burden on industry. The proposed amendment would immediately remove $billions from the tax rolls but the ever honest legislators said, “Oh we’ll send you money to cover the loss”. But then, of course the tax on owner occupied homes could double and farmland could be taxed at the highest possible rate.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude fell to $93.70/bbl. with condensate, formerly called Appalachian light sweet, fetching just $79.70/bbl. and Marcellus & Utica light bringing $84.70 & medium $93.70/bbl. It was reported that up around Columbus Ohio gasolene was below $4/gallon at some service stations. Henry Hub natural gas was $5.73/mmbtu while natural gas on the Dominion system (DTI) fetched just $4.88 and on Columbia (TCO) $4.905/mmbtu. The lower prices for natural gas in our area reflects the “glut” and the lack of facilities to utilize the raw material to make end products as “local leaders” don’t see any “quick bucks” for them. Y grade NGLs (natural gas liquids) fetched $47.882/bbl.
