The New Year was celebrated by several local folks by staying home because of the possibility of slick icy roads. Folks ate cooked cabbage as such is considered a good sign starting out the new year.
Curtis Marks was calling on Rev. Carl Marks. “Cooter” noted that Mr. & Mrs. R. P Marks and daughters from Ohio were visiting and that the elder granddaughter Rylyann crocheted a beautiful sweater. Also, “Sis” is to consult with her eye doctor.
The folks who make their living in the drug business are upset. Vaporizing drug boats causes shortages and increases in price & now the head of one of the cartels is vacationing in a Brooklyn jail. It’s been clear for years that certain politicians permit drug traffic for “obvious reasons”. Of course Venezuela has oil. Long ago men from Creston & Brooksville went there to work in the oil fields. When Bill White came back he brought Polly who spent her last years with Sam & Deemie Cooper. His daughter Mary married Warren Campbell. Bill McFee noted that on the school bus all the boys commented on her beauty. She was a teacher and rode the bus from Creston [back then].
The new mayor of New York City said that it was an end to rugged individualism and the start of the “warm collective” – sorta like the gulags in Siberia no doubt.
The winter meeting of the W. Va. State Republican Party will be held Saturday, January 10 down at the Mouth of the Elk. One of the items on the agenda is the proposed reopening of the Republican primary so independents can, once again, participate.
The comely Kim was visiting Wilma Mowrey.
Shenandoah, a Colorado based outfit, has been leasing land in Ritchie & Gilmer counties for Antero. A recent offer was labeled as 18% gross but it was noted that the price for the royalty was a fictional BTU price “at the well head” instead of the arm’s length price when the NGL’s were actually sold. The lease also had binding arbitration & warranty of title, both no nos when leasing/committing mineral rights in a document that will last for the next century. In W. Va. There are countless leases that were signed prior to 1900 when $300 was “a lot of money”. World class oil & gas formations in the middle of the largest oil & gas field on the planet should mean world class royalties and Cabot has received 25% since the 1970s. The State of W. Va. Gets 20% gross.
J. P. Marks was calling at the Creston Space Dock.
A woman with a clip board was knocking on the door at the Charles Russell residence. No one seems to know who she was.
