Creston News week of May 19th

Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

Spring continues to advance in Creston with more rain.  Blackberries are blooming and peonies are at their best.  Much local first cutting hay is ready to go up but rain makes such impossible.

A dead deer ended up on the Creston bridge (across the Little Kanawha).  Old Brer Buzzard & his family worked on cleaning up the carcass but couldn’t do much with the bones.  Up in the Pee Wee section there are now several of the bad invasive black buzzards that need to catch some lead.  Carl Marks’ garden, as usual, looks good with an anticipation of lots of tasty vegetables.

Jim Marshall, age 88, who lived & farmed by the Hodam Chapel graveyard on Spring Creek passed away.  Rev. Hodam was the minister John Boggs brought with him when he and his family moved from Greenbrier County.  Jim & Marge were always active in Farm Bureau.

Okey Ray Stinespring, age 85, passed away.  Several local residents knew him as “Bad Eye”.

A pretty new cedar bird feeder with plastic sides was hung to feed the feathered friends and filled with seeds.  Well it seems that old Brer Coon was not happy with hard access to sunflower seeds so it was knocked down [more than once].  The feeder will now stay inside until next winter.

There were about 80 for the Creston Food Pantry.  Distribution started early as there were predictions for a storm that did not arrive.

Charles Russell participated in the cook out held by Minnie Hamilton for the long term care residents & their families.  The event was a success.

The governor signed HB 3336 which, it is reported, will make plugging abandoned oil & gas wells much cheaper.

Antero’s first Marcellus well in Ritchie County made $2 million the first month & it was reported that it cost $5 million to drill.  In round numbers there was $100,000 in oil, $1 million in natural gas and $800,000 in ‘plant product’ which are the NGLs or natural gas liquids.  The new twist is to not pay for the NGLs but add “BTU” to a fictional well head price for paying royalties, state & local taxes.  Anybody in charge down at the Mouth of the Elk?

There will be a “yard sale”, formerly known as a “Flea Market” Saturday May 31 at the Creston Community Building.  Setups start at 8 A. M.

The next Creston ATV Poker Run will be July 19.  Mark the calendar.

The other day a box truck went up and down the Richardsonville road numerous times causing local resident to ponder about just what was really going on.

Leon Jurasik was helping his neighbor by mowing his lawn but the mower “found” a piece of rebar that was protruding from the soil.  So much for trying to help.

Local residents have been dealing with various types of respiratory distress.

The delinquent tax lists are out in the local papers.  Folks need to check that there were not missed, unpaid tax tickets.

James Casto was attending to business in Creston.  Also visiting folks in Creston was Watson Sheppard.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude is $60.62/bbl. With condensate fetching just $42.62/bbl. While Marcellus & Utica light was $49.62/bbl.
