At the March County Commission Meeting, Current Calhoun EMS Director Jason Wilson announced that he had discovered the error with Calhoun EMS’s un-billed runs. He had determined that the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system had doubled the number of runs for Calhoun EMS in 2022 making it look far worse than it was. Ridgeview News rolled her eyes at this theory, but being dutiful to the truth, reached out to other CAD operators in other counties and ask if this was possible? Those I ask said it was an uncertain probability and couldn’t be answered by them. So the possibility lived on without dispute. Until, there was more mathematical computations by others concerned who provided the information to follow which will once again have us questioning, how much money did Calhoun lose in un-billed runs?
Here are the facts that dispute the “let’s just divide by 2” model…
1. 534 was the number of “runs” recorded in CAD for 8 months in 2022. If that number were divided by two, as Mr. Wilson suggested, it would result in an average of 33 runs per month. The normal amount of runs per month is generally between 70 and 90. This categorically disproved that the systems were counting 2 runs for every run.
2. If this had been the case then the 911 calls for the police, fire etc would have also been doubled. No one ever reported this.
3. If two runs had been recorded for every run, then in Sept when the new Director took over, he would have noticed the discrepancy when he went to reconcile his number against the 911 records….as he reported he did.
With that said, it is enough to call his theory into question, and places us at the next question, why are they trying to explain this away, rather than getting to the truth? The more you explain something, rather than define it the more it multiplies questions. For those who grow weary of the EMS Headlines, believing it is just repetitive rhetoric, it’s far more than that. If we do not keep this story in the forefront of Calhoun County’s mind, it will simply go back under the original rug, and the next person who decides to be negligent with county funds, will be even less concerned that there is no repercussion for such action.
Ridgeview News contacted the WV OES office on Monday, and was asked to send the questions in email form, regarding additional reasons that Calhoun EMS’ license was suspended in 2022, but not mentioned in any prior notification. The email was sent on Tuesday but to date has received no response.
Thank you,Shari, for trying to find the real answers. We need truth. This county has lost so much money over the yrs,for unexplained things it’s time for transparency. Attend some commissioners meetings, the ppl of our county are treated like 2nd class citizens. We demand answers.Lies and belittling ppl need stopped. The attorney general Ethics commitee,DHHR have also been contacted. When lives are lost with runs sheets not being found, that’s a sad thing, imagine if it had been your family member.
